The Freerider MX FMX Rider Of The Year Award is now Gold Coaster Joe Sheppard’s to lose after he extended his already sizeable lead to an almost unattainable 200 points by placing third at the Precise Scaffolding X-Kings comp in Mackay on the weekend.
Shep placed third behind Robbie Adelberg and Clinton Moore, but with his nearest rivals Rhys Hillier and Matt Lindores absent from the comp, the KX250F rider further stretched his lead, while fellow Queenslander Adam Bayard reaped the benefits of attending every competition (so far) in 2009 by jumping from fifth into second overall.
Sheppard can wrap up the title at the prestigious Valyside Narrogin RevHeads competition next weekend, as long as he gains a solid result at what promises to be the biggest competition of the year. After the RevHeads comp, riders can still greatly improve their 2009 result by heading to New Zealand for the Red Bull FMX Battle in Wanganui (lower North Island), an event that promises to be one of the higher-scoring events on the ROTY calendar.
