South east qld trail bike riders will have somewhere legal to ride after a 745 hectare site was approved for a dedicated trail bike facility.
The multi-million dollar facility has been set down for a site at Wyaralong in the Scenic Rim.
Premier Anna Bligh said the facility would give riders a long-awaited legal place to ride after Black Duck Valley was forced to close last December.
“Off-road trail bike riding is a legitimate recreational pursuit that is becoming increasingly popular in Queensland,” Ms Bligh said. “But illegal trail bike riding is a major issue in our suburbs and this new facility will give people a place to ride their motorbike legally.”
Planning for stage one of the park is expected to be finished by mid next year when the Council of Mayors takes over responsibility for its construction.
Stage one will include a camping facility, about 30km of trail, a natural terrain motocross course, a parking area and toilets.
Stage two will provide a motocross track including race tower, spectator area and starting gates, improved camping facilities, and additional trails and signage as well as a kiosk.
The Wyaralong site was chosen because of its terrain.
“The natural topography of the area also means that noise and dust will be largely contained in the park area,” Ms Bligh said.
Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor John Brent said the facility would be welcomed by the entire community.
“It offers many benefits to local community and surrounding areas,” Cr Brent said.

CANBERRA TIMES - INJURY FREE WHITE JUMPING TO BECOME KING OF THE U.S HILL AGAIN
Written By David Jean
It’s been a tough year for BMX dirt jumper Cam White.
After scaling the heights of his chosen sport by winning the 2008 AST Dew Tour Cup in the United States, a chronic back injury ended White’s hopes of defending his crown before this year’s series began.
A painful bulging disc prevented him from competing in the opening two stops of the series and at one stage it was so painful he couldn’t bend down to tie his own shoes.
The 25 year old missed almost half the tour, but finished fourth at the final two stops, ensuring he was still ranked 7th in the series.
White has since returned to Australia.
Speaking at his parents Wamboin property, he vowed to return better than ever in 2010.
“It’s been a pretty rough year,” White said.
“I messed up my back quite a bit. I had a bulging disc and it just wasn’t getting better for about three months.”
“It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, it hurt every time I moved at one stage.”
“I ended up getting a big needle in there and that ended up fixing it.”
“But that was late in the series and I’d already missed out on heaps of the stops.”
“It’s a real hard injury. You break a bone and in six weeks or whatever it’s going to be better and your cast comes off and you’re good to go.”
“But this just wasn’t getting better. I finished seventh overall in the tour having missed half the year, so that’s not to bad.”
“Who knows how if could have turned out if I wasn’t injured?”
White has been competing in the United States for the past six years and is regarded as one of the best BMX dirt jumpers in the world.
He has finished on the Dew Tour podium three times in his career, including last year’s win.
But while he is readily recognisable in most of the US, it has taken hom longer to gain recognition in his home country.
Thanks to his annual Hillside Dirt Jam that is changing.
Each February since 2007 White has invited some of the world’s best riders to compete on the giant dirt jumps he has constructed in his parents’ backyard at Wamboin.
Nearly 500 people flocked to this year’s event, which raised money for the Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia.
White and his friends are currently constructing the jumps for next year’s event, which is pencilled in for February 6.
“Getting the jumps ready is the hardest part… once they’re ready we’ll ride them in,” White said.
“It’s going to be a pretty quiet off-season, so as soon as my jumps are ready I’ll get back into riding.”
“It’s definitely been a hard year, but you can’t win all the time.”

Rhys just sent through the announcement of his new race team for 2010. Rhys had this to say...
"I would like to thank Tomaso Ancillotti for giving me the chance to ride for the team. I'm looking forward to riding my new Ancillotti bike and producing some great results again next season. It will also be good to be riding for a team again, and not having to worry about anything, other than concentrating on my riding. I'm also looking forward to meeting my new team mates. Ancillotti have given me the chance to show the world what I can do, and I hope to produce some good results. I come from Australia, so it's going to be great to be based in Italy and learning a new language and culture."
"My goals for the 2010 season is to produce some top 10 results and finish the season in the top 20. I had a good season last year with a 13th at Maribor and finishing 4th at the World Championships in Canberra, Australia. I believe that I can finally get a top 10 result in my first year as a pro rider. My future goals are to one day be world champion. "

Finally the Unit Team Gold Coast BMX Trip video is online now! Featuring Cam White, Dane Searls, Cam Pianta, Nick Cooper and David Girsch, the trip sums up what Aussie BMX is all about! Trails, Beers, Beach, Hooters and lots of laughs.

Vital BMX - Unit BMX Gold Coast Trip

Yo, this past few weeks has been really busy. The other weekend we flew up to visit Unit to do some riding and photos etc, it was a flat out 2 days and we got a lot of fun stuff in like visiting the Childrens Hospital, in particular this one fello, Ben. He was a bike rider/skater from the Gold Coast. We went and hung out with him for a bit gave him some posters, clothes and stickers and also a PSP with a couple of games. It was awesome meeting him and hanging out with him.
After visiting Ben we went downstairs and hung out with some other kids in a games room, playing Nintendo Wii and air hockey and foose ball.. It was a lot of fun. Dane Searls and i were nominated by two girls to get smacked in the face with a cream pie... I had never been smashed in the face with a cream pie before but it was pretty fun... Lucky my head is shaved cause i bed Searlsy's hair stinks like whip cream still to this day..haha.
We also rode some sweet trails up on the Goldy. Got some sweet footage and had a great time.. Thanks heaps to the Unit crew for making the trip happen. I had a great time.
Since i've been back i have been diggin like crazy. We have locked in the 6th of February for this years jam, which will again be a charity event, and shaping up to be bigger then ever! The jumps are getting there slowly. The drainages are all done and tidy and looking good. The only big job left is to move the 3rd take off.. I'm mixing up the hip this year to add some flavor, but its a big ol' lip to move so its takin' me a while.. Check out the pics of the progress of the yard..
Cheers and chat soon, Cam W

Hi All, Here's a update on my injury.
The news is all good. I went to the specialist and the x ray showed the femur is healing better than expected. He was quite shocked by how much bone growth I had around the break. So I am now allowed back to training and have been hitting the bitumen on my road bike. I've also started back with my personal trainer Simon from Race Elements, and he's got me working out in the gym twice a week. I'm not allowed on my down hill bike just yet, but I'll be back racing in January and i can't wait. Having this time off has really made me hungry to get back on the bike.
I've got some more good news: I've signed on with a new team for next year overseas. I can't say which team I will be riding for just yet, as I'm waiting on the press release before I can say anything. I'm really looking forward to riding a new bike for a new team, and looking forward to taking on the best tracks in the world overseas. Its been great riding for Tomac over the last 2 years, but it was time to move on, and this new team offered me a deal that was hard to resist.
My goal now is to be right in time for the Australian Championships in Adelaide, which will be the 11th January. I know my fitness will be back to normal by then and it will be my first time riding my new bike, so I'm really looking forward racing again.
I'll keep you posted on my results. Cheers Rhys

Sup guys, Nick Cooper here. I'm finally back home tonight after a busy month travelling round, first off I went to Melbourne for the box jump best trick comp at there indoor park down there (Rampfest) some gnarly shit went down, fronty supermans, double flips, double whip flips, just to name a few. But the winning trick ended up being Matt Whyatt with a fronty whip!! Props to him!
Next off I headed to Taupo N.Z for the Mainstreet Jam held by the cousin (Jed). I ended up with a tie second with the cousin, and George Bolter took the win with some rad sub rail moves. After taupo I flew back to the Gold Coast for a week with the Unit Bmx team filming for a web clip which should be out on vital now maybe?!?
It was a rad week drinkin, trails, Hooters, bungy and jumping dodgems for an hour haha. Oh and did I mention Hooters!
After that I headed to Sawtell, just outside Coffs Harbour, New South Wales for a park comp organized by Shane Conlon, who also after some awesome local lines and gnarly tricks was eventual winner! Best trick was also won by Shane with a 540 barspin fakie over the spine bank lander, but Chris Courtney and Matt Whyatt also impressed with a truck to tuck and fronty no hander respectively. Tom Stretton also did some crazy front wheel tech brakeless shit I don't even know what to call haha. Crazy month, but now I'm home to chill for a couple of weeks for Christmas so enjoy.....Peace

This year started off pretty slow for me as i broke my leg in january, then missing out on the New Zealand Crusty Tour because of it. I still wasn't up to the level i would have like to have been, going into the Cap City Crusty Tour but i ended up getting the job done and doing what i needed to. Since then i've been over doing shows in South America at a place called Paraguay, which i loved and had a great time. Also, Showtime FMX shows all over AUS which are always fun.
Then it was time to step things up a little, i made a few calls to Gaven Walker from Quick Fix Harley Mildura, about flipping a Harley Davidson for a worlds first. He had this jumped planned for a while, but no one really wanted to do it so i jumped at the chance. We thought we would have a couple of months to prepare for this jump, but Gav called me on a Thursday arvy, and said you need to get down here right now and flip this XR 1200 to dirt before this other guy does it. So we had till Saturday to do it. I flew down Friday morning and went straight to Cam Sinclairs foam pit and did 6 perfect flips into the pit at around 40 feet, even throwing a one hander flip in as well just to be cheeky. Come Saturday it was time to do it, I did another 6 flips into the pit then we pushed the ramp over to the dirt landing and got it all set up. It was a really bad cross wind but it had to be done, lets just say that was the scariest moment in my life (shitting myself) lined it up and went for it, pulled it clean for the worlds first back flip on a Harley Davidson. Definitly happy with that.
Since then i have just been practicing alot and i'm riding the best i have been in a long time and loving it. I'm back off to South America in January for some shows and hopefully doing alot more Harley stuff and seeing how far i can push it.
At 2:08 am on December 11th, the world lost a true innovator and pioneer of FMX. At just 31 years of age, Mike Cinqmars departed too soon, but his wealth of accomplishments will and OG status will be remembered forever. RIP.

Hey everyone,
Things have been a little quiet since the Narrogin Revheads comp, it's been a pretty crazy last few months so it's been good to be home for a couple of weekends in a row. I took my daughter Scarlett and finance Casey up to the sunny coast for a weekend, Scarlett is about 13 months old and it was cool watching her spin out at all the fish and things at underwater world!
Riding wise I just got my 2010 KX250F thanks to Pro Kawasaki, so I slapped a sweet new sticker kit on it (Matt at SPP did a great job) and a few other bits and pieces and it's looking pretty nice. Still got a few things I want to do with it though... but for now I'm just trying not to get it dirty.
I've a few shows lined up around qld and possibly Hong Kong around christmas and new years, so I'll let you know how they go!
Cheers Joe

We were just catching up on the latest FMX news over at Freerider MX Online, and it seems they have uncovered some interesting stories...
First up, apparently there is a new FMX tour in the states, similar to the Aussie Crusty tour, and it seems they have pretty much locked in every big USA rider for the whole 15 stop tour which runs from January til April 2010. The 'Nuclear Cowboys' tour is no doubt going to cause a giant headache for the 2010 Crusty Tour promoters GAS, who will need to search elsewhere as their usual cast of high profile US riders will be unavailable, including Adam Jones, Mike Mason, Nate Adams, Twitch, Ronnie Faisst, Todd Potter, Beau Bamburg, Nixey Danielson, Jim McNeil, Dustin Miller, Matt Buyten, Brian Foster, Jimmie McGuire and even young Aussie Jackson Strong.
This could be seen as a boost for Australian FMX, as no doubt GAS will be forced to search for new riders and hopefully give more opportunities to some of the previously forgotten Aussie talent. We personally think that the top Aussies have always been the most outstanding riders on the tour anyway, so we are looking forward to checking out the new line up!
Next on the list, we might see some big changes to worlds biggest Action Sports event, the X Games, if snowy Canadians have their way! I know, it seems crazy to think the X-Games will be anywhere but LA, but apparently LA's contract to hold the games expired this year, and ESPN promoters are exploring outside options. If rumors are true, X-Games organisers are ready to give Canada the go-ahead, providing they can find some massive corporate sponsors to back the event. Definitely sounds like a huge change for X-Games, and we think a change may bring back some of the spark of the X-Games from years passed... Stay tuned

While your booking your flights for the 2010 Farm Jam in March, lock a couple more flights in for the next big FMX comp, the 'Red Bull FMX Battle' being held in Wanganui, New Zealand.
Unit athlete Kain Saul will be making the trip across to compete, while fellow team mate, Kiwi Levi Sherwood will be a judge at the event. Shaping up to be a killer event, the FMX Battle is New Zealands National Championships, and is surely going to attract an 'A' grade roster of riders!

Hey guys,
Brett Frew here from the deep south of NZ. Heres a couple of photos of the new line of dirt jumps at our Farm and a table on a hip, they are soo much fun and they will be awesome for Farm Jam 2010, March next year. I've been riding lots and getting a few new things dialled as well as building hard and riding different jump spots around Queenstown. Very much looking forward to some time off work at Xmas to ride! I also want to hear from Units riders who want to come ride the Jam in March, bring it on!
Cheers

We headed out to Darren Pokojs house to test his latest toy, 'The Bag Jump'.
This thing is the next level of foam pits, and so much fun. Dane Searls was on hand to try some of the new tricks he is working on and give the Bag Jump a workout.
Check out all the pics at the Unit FLICKR GALLERY

Last Saturday night saw the biggest ever MX/SX event ever held in Australia come to Brisbane, and there was certainly no disappointment for the fans.
Metal Mulisha rider Josh Grant and all round motocross legend Davie Millsaps, made the trip over from the U S of A, and their prescense really pushed the Aussie guys and made for some of the most explosive racing of the year.
Unit team riders Dan Reardon and Tye Simmonds were both in the mix holding down 2nd and 4th respectively in the series.
Dan Reardon qualified right behind Chad Reed and was on fire, coming out strong in every race, gunning for the hole shot and battling hard for the lead. Dan should have easily secured a strong 3rd overall for the night behind Reed and Millsaps, but a crash with Matt Moss early in the 2nd race left his podium hopes dashed. Still a 4th overall right behind Jay Marmont was enough to secure his 2nd place for the overall season, an achievement he is no doubt content with, but his dreams of taking the title from Chad will have to wait for another year.
Tye Simmonds was looking strong in qualifying, but a small crash in the time trials feature saw him lose concentration, and it seemed as if the pressure of racing against so many big names may have got the better of the youngster from Bourke, in only his first ever Pro Opens series. Tye still managed a 10th overall for the night, which was enough to hold him in 4th overall for the series, which we think is a HUGE achievement considering the youngster took a huge risk stepping up to the Pro Opens this year at such a young age, and has proven he can bang bars with the best, after a series of strong battles with the likes of Chad Reed, Dan Reardon and Jay Marmont throughout the year. We are sure there is plenty of big things to come for Tye.
Robbie Marshall also had a consistent night, making the finals and heading home with a 12th overall. Considering Robbie is only a part time racer, and this is his first big series back, he has definitely shown he still has what it takes on the track. Ending the series with a strong 10th, we hope to see Robbie at next years series, with more time on the track under his belt.
Luke Arbon also took the big step up to the Pro Lites for this series, and rode consistently in the front pack all year. A bit of misfortune and inexperience on the big stage saw Luke not achieve his high hopes, but he still managed a very strong 10th overall for the series, and sets him up for bigger and better things next year!
You can view all the highlights of the finale HERE at the Super X website.

Just wound up another epic day with the BMX Team on the Gold Coast. Slight change of plans, on the way to the trails we stopped into Hooters for some nachos, and ended up tearing the place up and staying for beers all afternoon. Plenty of laughs all around as the stunning Hooters girls showed the boys a good time! Check out the photos now at the link below, and you will be able to see the rest in the new web vid dropping soon...

Had a huge day yesterday with the BMX Team! Started at Helensvale Cycles new ramps, hit some crazy Gold Coast Trails and then headed to the childrens hospital to visit some unfortunate kids, and tried to give them some laughs... Cam W and Dane ended up copping cream pies in the face, so was definitely worth the trip! Ended the night in our penthouse on Surfers and some beers! Good Times all round! Another big day ahead!
Stay tuned for more photos, blogs and a vide in the coming days...

Unit tees went on sale in the world’s largest action sports retailer ‘Pacsun’ on November 15th. With 1000 stores across the USA Pacsun stocks the ‘whos who’ of ‘it’ brands from around the world. It is an interesting accomplishment for a piece of artwork that was banned in Australia earlier this year.
Check out what the ADVERTISING STANDARDS BUREAU had to say about the deisgn, and why they deemed it inappropriate....
CASE NUMBER 531/08 FEBRUARY 2009 "The Board noted that while the woman was smiling and appeared happy, this did not negate the sexualised pose in which she is placed. The board noted the woman was posed with her legs apart and her arms pressed against her breasts. Although the woman's breasts were obscured by her arm and her genitalia was hidden from view by the breakfast cereal the board considered the advertisement used a sexualised pose and that the presentation of the woman in this manner was gratuitous and irrelevant to the product being advertised."
Unit Artist and Founder Paul Everest had this to say... "On behalf of Unit I wish to thank the Board for their obvious wisdom and sound understanding of today's youth.
You can get your own Fruitloops Tee right now at the Unit Online Store.

Just saw this crazy pic over at EXPN, apparently Chuck Carothers was practicing his Harley flip into the pit, and only just made it out seconds before it erupted. Get this, the mayor of Prague who loves FMX has offered to rebuild it.. hahaha what a legend!
