Red Bull X-Fighters 2010 Big News

Monday 25 January 2010

Red Bull X-Fighters has without a doubt become the biggest and most succesful series in FMX around the world. Last year saw even more international riders attend, new locations and bigger crowds then ever before. 2009 also saw judging and scoring in FMX get even more questioned and doubted, as the the worlds best riders pushed the limits of the sport even further.

Well, in great news for the sport of FMX and it's future, Red Bull has announced a full overhawl of it's X-Fighters judging format and criteria. A clinic of the worlds most important judges, athlete managers and riders was held at Red Bull HQ, to discuss and brainstorm ways in which judging can be made clearer, results more accurate and most importantly, riders feeling like they got a fair score and result at the end of each event. The clinic sounds like a huge success so far, with nothing held back, and all dirt layes out on the table.

You can read the full story over at EXPN, and we can all expect to see the official changes really soon.

In other big news, it sounds like Red Bull are planning 6 stops this year, expanding the X-Fighters empire into more countries, with more rounds. The locations and dates are supposedly being released this Tuesday, so stay tuned to the Unit Blog for all that news, and lets all hope Australia gets a spot on the list! There will also be a qualifying / ranking session coming up very soon, which gives every rider from around the globe, the chance to be apart of the 2010 X-Fighters Competition. The top 4 riders from last years series all get a free pass to the 2010 series, and those guys are Nate Adams, Robbie Maddison, Eigo Sato and Mat Rebaud. That leaves 6 more spots for the top riders from the ranking session, as well as 2 wild-card entries at every round, for the most outstanding riders at the time who aren't on the regular season.

With so much going on with X-Fighters, we can't wait for it all to unravel, and the 2010 Champions to be crowned. This year will see the competition truly become the worlds premier FMX series.
