It was almost a year ago now that Kyle Chisholm suffered a horrendous crash, resulting in 4 broken ribs, internal bleeding and a badly injured lung. His recovery has taken the better part of 2011, some people even casting doubt on Kyle's ability to reach the top level of the sport ever again.
Well we think it is fair to say Kyle is back in a big way after his astounding results over the weekend at the Paris-Bercy Supercross. The event draws alot of the world's best riders including the likes of Justin Barcia, Eli Tomac, Justin Weimer and Mike Alessi, but it was Kyle who walked away after the 3rd night of racing crowned the "King Of bercy".
No doubt, a huge weight has been lifted off Kyle's shoulders now, and he can look forward to the upcoming American race season with high hopes and confidence.
Check out the full report from the weekend, along with some more photos here.
Or you can see Kyle's full recovery story below, to learn a little bit more about the challenges he has faced to get back to speed.
The Unit FMX Pro Open went down over the weekend in Rockhampton, on the amazing Project FMX course. Making up the 5th and final round of the Australian Underground FMX Championship, the event gives Australian up and comers the opportunity to showcase their skills, and a reason to push themselves and their riding level.
Luke McNeill took the win, followed by Kain Saul and Joel Brown.
Check out the official highlights video above, or head over to the Unit Facebook for a rad photo gallery from the finals.

We are on site right now in Rockhampton for the Unit FMX Pro Open! Check out this rad GoPro video we captured with Kain Saul, taking a lap of the course.
The 'Project FMX' compound is looking amazing, and the riders are having alot of fun getting used to big hits, and seeing what is possible. Unit rider Kain Saul has made the trip up to Rocky, along with fellow Monster Kawasaki rider Brad Burch, and it is great to see the younger riders take inspiration and motivation from the more experienced pros.
This event actually makes up the fifth and final round of the Australian Underground FMX Championships for 2011, and is the start of a new wave of events and input from the Australian industry to revive the sport in Australia. The RFDMX crew has done an incredible job getting the Underground Tour up and running in the recent years, so it is really special to see some of the bigger companies now getting behind it properly.
The finals will be going down tomorrow at 11am, so if you are anywhere near Rockhampton, make sure you get down to the corner of Milman Rd and the Bruce Highway to check it all out.

The Australian Super X series is now in full swing, and after Round 1 in Melbourne over the weekend, it seems the competition is more feirce than ever!
Melbourne was smashed with rain and hail in the hours before the main event, so it turned into a massive mudfest. Every single rider had to risk it all to get near the front of the pack, and the slippery conditions caused alot of upsets and crashes with the top guys.

OPENS CLASS
After Jay Marmont crashed out at the start of the race, it was Unit riders Billy Mackenzie and Tye Simmonds who lead the pack. Simmonds was out to prove a point, after returning from a big year in the USA he wanted to show Australia how far he had come and progressed. Billy has racked up three 2nd places at previous Super X rounds, and he was looking to secure his first ever win in the series. Things were looking solid for Billy, until 1 small mistake saw him slide out in 1 of the deteriorating muddy corners. This gave Tye the opportunity to pass, and take the win from Billy, who ended up 2nd overall.

LITES CLASS
Unit team rider Dean Ferris moved into the Lites class this series, and alot of industry people had wondered how Dean would go against the powerhouse of Matt Moss, who has been a dominant force in the Aussie Lites class for years now. In the first main event for the Lites, Dean grabbed the holeshot and cruised to victory, Matt Moss battled through the pack but didn't quite make it to first place. In the 2nd and final event, everybody thought Dean was a sure thing for victory after grabbing another holeshot, but with Moss chasing him down, Dean had a massive crash over the finish line jump courtesy of the sloppy upramp. He made it back on the bike, but only managed to salvage a 5th palce. In the end it was Matt Moss who would take the overall.
We can't wait for this weekend, hopefully with a dry track, we will see who has the consistency and power to challenge for the championship. For up to the minute information on the Super X, head over to Unit Twitter where you can see updates from a bunch of different industry sources, or tune in each Friday night to Speed TV for a full recap of the previous event.

Last weekend the Monster crew invited us along to their big party in Brisbane, to celebrate the launch of the 2012 Monster Girls Calendar. It was an amazing night to say the least, and we can't wait for next time.

Caroline, can you give us an update on how your Olympics BMX journey has been and what hurdles stand in front of you?
The Olympic journey is well on its way... 3 years in the process so far with this year being quite the roller coaster year. I have had the most time off for injury with my knee, in the most crucial time of the year and yet I have been in more World Cup finals than the past 3 years. Made 2 podiums at the Holland World Cup and the BMX World Championships to finish the World Cup season in 4th.
It is now less than a year to the 2012 London Olympics and time is flying! I am currently the highest ranked Australian female qualifying for the Olympics.. But the road ahead is going to be tough and definitely not easy.
You won some rounds of the American Nationals this last weekend, what competition were you up against and what does it mean to you?
The ABA races are huge compared to the Australian BMX series and the competition is no slouch. Haro/Rockstars Brooke Crain who won the last world cup time trial and came 2nd in the racing was competing along with lots of other fast girls. I really enjoy racing these America races as majority of my season is full of expectation, criteria, standards, Olympic qualifying, pressure and Australian team environment. So it is nice to have a little break from that and have fun riding my bike and competing.

You are an inspiration to young athletes, especially girls, do you make a point of being a good role model and encouraging the up-and-comers?
Haha :) well thanks! I am just being me...
When I was growing up in BMX I was always with the guys and looking up to them because its a male dominated sport and I never had many girls to look up to.
I like showing girls what can be achieved and young athletes in general and that even though I compete in male dominated sports where females get less funding & prize money, less support, less credibility and it is a tough road that there are soooo many positives and to never give up!
When you were growing up, did you ever expect to be travelling the world and
riding bikes for a living?
It was always a dream but I never really pictured myself actually doing it or it becoming a reality. I would have never thought that BMX racing would become an Olympic sport or girls would be jumping 43 foot doubles or I would have seen majority of the world at 20yrs old. I was just a little takka who followed in her brothers footsteps and loved riding her bike.
How much hard work do you put in to stay at the top of your game, and
hopefully make it to the 2012 Olympics?
Any Olympic sport is a different world... Some would say that it takes the fun out of it! I believe that it is a lot of hard work at times, but when you love pushing yourself and your body to the limit to be the absolute best that you can be. Down to the last % in every aspect to represent your country at the absolute pinnacle of sport...... It gives me butterflies!!!

Looking down the riders list for the final round of the Australian Underground FMX championship, the UNIT FMX Open, it sure does signal that freestyle motocross Down Under is looking healthy as ever. There's a few of the big names in there like Matt Schubring and Rob Adelberg, Kiwi rider Liston Borrie, and the in form championship contenders Rhys Hillier, Joel Brown, Luke McNeil, Luke Saunders to name a few, plus the return of Jason Rozycki, 30 names all up and it shows the depth in the Aussie scene and highlights the fact we really need competitions like the UNIT FMX Open where the up and coming riders can gage where they're at compared to the top FMX riders.
It would have been great to see some more of Australia's pro FMX riders get behind the event, but we're sure you'll agree the solid list of riders below will be putting it all on the line for their slice of the 15,000 dollars of prize money on offer.
Check out the list for yourselves, and we hope to see you guys rock up to the event to support these guys as they throw down their best tricks!

Unit would like to congratulate Kyle Baldock on his amazing 2011 season! From his own personal struggles since the passing of his brother, through to winning multiple stops of the 2011 Dew Tour season and being a major contender for 2 Dew Cups, Kyle has been inspirational.
At the finale of the Dew Tour this last weekend, Kyle had to content with the finals of both the BMX Park and BMX Dirt contests in the same day. Even though he suffered a reported seperated shoulder during his last run of the Park final, he still managed to go out and win the BMX Dirt final!
Kyle ended up scoring 3rd place overall in both the 2011 Dew Tour Dirt and Park Championships, as well as a wealth of experience towards his future in the BMX game. Great job mate, and we wish you all the best into the future.
Kyle will now fly back to Australia for some well earnt rest, and some quality time with friends and family before resetting his sights on the 2012 season.

The Monster Energy Cup went down in Las Vegas over the weekend, and it was no secret that Monster set out to create a Supercross event that dwarfed the traditional AMA series. Not just a supercross race, this one-off event boasted a 1 million dollar winner-take-all main event, $40,000 winner-take-all freestyle best trick competition, amateur racing and a host of sideshows such as the Monster/Falken/Ford Mustang drift demonstrations in the pits.
At the end of the night it was Ryan Villopoto who would walk away with the million, securing his spot at the top of the world of motocross/supercross.
Unit MX team rider Kyle Chisholm made his debut back on the track, after a very long and hard recovery. It was his first race since February, and Kyle managed a very solid 6th overall. We would like to congratulate Kyle on his return, and the best of luck moving forward now that he has proven he is back.

Unit's Austin Politelli in form, takes home 2nd overall. Photo courtesy Vurb Moto
In the Amateur All-Stars class, Unit's Austin Politelli was on track to prove a point. The amareur racnks are some of the most fierce right now, with countless groms trying to make a name for themselves. Austin came home with an amazing 2nd place overall, and was actually with tied 1st place on points, but lost on a countback. Austin is now making the trip down to Australia to race the Australian SuperX series in the Lites class, and we can't wait to see how he goes!
The other big highlight for the night was the $40,000 FMX Best Trick contest. This is the closest thing to the iconic X Games Best Trick contest, and with the likes of Kyle Loza, Cam Sinclair, Mark Monea and Jackson Strong on board to battle it out, fans were assured some amazing stuff. In the end it was Mark Monea who walked away with the cash after landing his spectacular off-axis front flip. Cam Sinclair had a big crash on a double flip and has just recieved surgery on his broken femur, Kyle Loza also had a big crash attempting his bike flip but walked away without injury and Jackson Strong also landed his infamous front flip, but it was not enough to knock Mark Monea off the top spot.
We just want to give a quick shout out to Kyle Baldock, who is about to compete in both the final of BMX Dirt and BMX Park at the Dew Tour. He is in the running to win both of the Dirt and Park Dew Cups for 2011, so no doubt, this is going to be the biggest day in his life!
Check out the videos from RIDE wrapping up the Dirt and Park semi-finals. Kyle was pre-qaulified for Park, and won the Dirt semis so he is looking good for some wins.
Unfortunately Cam White had a bit of bad luck in the semis and didn't make it through to the finals for dirt, but we want to say a big congrats to Cam anyway, this has been an amazing year for him and we cannot wait to see what he is coming once back in Australia. Cam is fresh off a massive knee injury and recovery, so every time he rides he is getting back to his old Dew Tour winning form.
We talk to action sport icons Jim DeChamp and Travis Pastrana about Jim's near death car crash on the set of the new Nitro Circus 3D film.

Saturday the 15th of October will be the biggest day in Kyle Baldock's life to date. We will get to see Kyle compete at the final round of 2011 Dew Tour, in the BMX Dirt and BMX Park contests, both of which he is in a strong position to win the overall championship.
Unit gave all of our Facebook fans the rare opportunity to find out more about Kyle, and ask him some questions about his riding, career, inspirations or anything else. Here are Kyle's answers, along with a cool selection of photos from 2011, his first big year on Dew Tour. (All photos by Ryan Guettler)

How long have you been riding for?
I've been riding for about 6 years now. Started off just riding my local BMX track with some mates, then I started riding skateparks.

How come it took you so long to get noticed in the BMX scene, when your that good?
I was never as good as what I am now, but I definitely think it's about being in the right spot at the right time.

Whats going through your mind before throwing down a run, when riding against great riders such as Cam White, who has already won a Dew Cup?
Cam White is a great mate of mine, I'm actually at his house with my girlfriend right now haha. I don't think about who I'm competing against, because to me I'm riding against myself and it's just like having a session with mates, just throwing down the best we got.

Is this your first year riding overseas?
I actually was in qualifying for Dew Tour last year and didn't get through qualifying! I also placed 4th at Asian X Games in 2010, and scored some firsts in a competition in North Carolina and one in Korea, so this is actually my second year competing overseas.
Where are you from and where do ride while at home?
I'm from the Gold Coast, Queensland. I ride the GC Compound a fair bit.
What is your biggest inspiration to ride?
I always got into alot of trouble at school and had people telling me I was going to go nowhere in my life. Riding was my escape from that, I definitely used that to inspire me to prove not only to them but to myself. And now my inspiration is also the loss of my brother, I've just learnt to turn negative into a positive, he has become my inspiration.

What will it mean to you if you win 1 or both of the Dew Tour championships at Las Vegas this weekend?
I love riding, and just winning a Dew stop in my second year is more than I imagined! To be in the running for possibly both of the Dew cups is just mind blowing.

Have you got any new tricks you are going to unveil in Vegas?
You'll just have to wait and see, maybe yes, maybe no :)
Anybody you would like to thank?
First off I want to thank my sponsors Unit Clothing, Monster Energy, Vans Shoes, Mirraco and Skull Candy. Also my girlfriend, family and all my mates.

Check out the latest teaser from the soon to be released FMX film 'That's The Way', featuring Unit team rider Mat Rebeaud!
The idea to create more than another FMX movie was born in a discussion with the riders, who are deeply involved in the project with their ideas and creative input to ensure the communication of the sport in an authentic way to a wide audience without losing the core identity of FMX.
Starting the project without any financial support and solely based on the spirit of the riders and production team underlines how much the riders support the idea. Both parties invest as much enthusiasm as they can to deliever something special in Summer 2011, which hopefully brings the sport another step forward into the right direction. Simply: “That´s the way!”
Two years in the making “That´s The Way“ is a film that will not only feature the best FMX riders in the world, but it will do it in a format never seen before: Aspiring to bring you closer, this action packed documentary will take the viewer on a triparound the world to showcase what motivates the riders to push themselves to their limit or even beyond.
Unit BMX team riders Jaie Toohey and Ryan Guettler recently took a trip around France to hit up some contests and hang with the locals. Ryan took his camera along and filmed everything, including their time at Vans Kill The Line and the Lords Of Dirt contest 2011. Features riding from Ryan, Jaie, Josh Stead, Cam White, Andreu Lacondeguy, Nasty and TJ Ellis.
