USA Trip Day 13: Greenville Shreds

Thursday 2 September 2010

After yet another big day of travel from Boston to Greenville, we finally arrived at the tiny 2 bedroom unit of David Girsch and Jaie Toohey that they call home along with a swag of other young Aussie BMX riders on their first trip to Greenville. It is an amazing town, and some would even say the home of BMX in America. It has helped produce countless amazing riders, and is the home of the famous indoor parks built by Ryan Nyquist and Dave Mirra.

It really is an Aussie invasion in Greenville, and during multiple film shoots at 'The Unit' and 'The Warehouse', international riders were easily out numbered by young, eager Aussie riders ready to make a name for themselves. Andrew 'Mini' Ahumanda was once such rider, and actually won the Greenville leg of the Freeflow Tour, with an incredible including a 360 triple downside whip.

These guys throw themselves in the deepend for their time in America, and basically just live day to day with money and accomodation. But they will tell you that it is worth all the effort for the experience. David Girsch is one great example of a firt timer, and the amount his riding has progressed since arriving in Greenville is incredible!

Photo: 5 guys in a 2 bedroom unit is beyond a joke. But when money is tight and you don't have any family around, the Aussies stick together, and help out whoever is in need.

We were lucky enough to spend 2 days in Greenville, filming and doing some photos with David Girsch and Jaie Toohey, and the result were amazing! We watched all the guys ride at 'The Unit', 'The Warehouse' and 'Jaycee' skatepark, and the result was astonishing. We last saw these guys shredding in Australia, and both have stepped their game up majorly.

We are looking forward to putting together their edits, and look forward to getting back over their in the future! Special thanks to Colin Mackay, Ryan Nyquist and Dave Mirra for hooking us up while in Greenville, and letting us film at their amazing spots.

Dane Searls In Europe

Sup guys? It’s been a busy few weeks. I was up in Gold Coast, finishing off my new big jumps, Unit hooked me up at Shuie's place and we tested the first few out. They were the biggest jumps I’ve hit in my life and they felt awesome. I wasn’t sure about the speed for the 50footer because I’ve never hit a jump that size before, so I had to give it a go. I came up a few feet short and pin dropped into the back of the landing! It was a massive impact which left me with a black eye and cut above it, as well as a massive dead arm, but I was lucky not to break my legs.

VIDEO: GIANTS OF DIRT PART 1

I was to sore to hit again that day, so we called it to see how I felt the next day. I was way to sore so we drove home to Umina beach where I live.

Had a few days at home and it was off to France just like that, I was planning a trip with Pattric Guimez weeks before while on a trip to Germany, to come ride his contest and a few other fun events and trails here in France, so here I am chilling in the South of France, riding and surfing with Pattric Guimez, Marcus Hampil, TJ Ellis and Mike ‘Hucker’ Clarke.

We had the Lords Of Dirt contest last weekend, it was a fun set up with a curve wall ride at one end to bring you back. All the Euro riders rode so well, I just did what I could on the jumps and didn’t really push it. I knew TJ and a few others were going to destroy these jumps. It was a one run intro then a 45min jam. They were real fun so this was a good way to have the contest. I ended up getting 4th, so I was stoked. 1st went to Ben Wallace, 2nd TJ Ellis, 3rd Hucker, 4th myself and 5th Colin Mackay.

We do a show this weekend with the boys 7hrs from here, and I’m here for another 4 weeks riding a box jump contest, the ‘Rebel jam’ and ‘Vans Kill The Line’ at some sweet trails. Then back home to Australia to jump these big jumps again. Keep you posted, cheers…

Richo Swaps It Up

Wednesday 1 September 2010

lHey Richo here!

Alot has been happening lately! Colony bmx and myself have parted ways after a long time, all on good terms of course! Thanks for the help over the years! But now I've moved on to better things! I've started riding for S&M bikes and profile flow! Can't thank these blokes enough for picking me up and helping me out, be sure to check them out and support American made products!

Other news, 2 of my favourite trail spots have been dozed! F***the council! On the bright side I've been diggin with the help of some good mates and we have another secret spot pretty much up and running! So pumped! F*** riding skateparks with 5000 scooter kids! I've also moved out of Beenleigh and I'm now living down the coast! Change is good but I miss good old Beenleigh! Anyway that's it! I'll check back in with you guys soon! Holla!

Southwick MX Wrap

Monday 30 August 2010

Photo: Matt Goerke rode amazingly in his first race back after injury, to score a 3rd overall in the Opens class. All photos by SImon Makker for Unit. For a full race report and news from the event, visit Racer X.

We were lucky enough to attend the weekends MX racing in Southwick, all of the Unit team rode solid for some great results. Unfortunately though, young Unit Motoconcepts team rider Travis Baker was hit by another rider, coming off the track with a broken foot. He will miss the last 2 rounds, but will back with plenty of time for the Supercross season.

Fellow Unit team rider, Aussie Dan Reardon has been gaining momentum after a very rocky path since A1 and a horrible crash. He managed a great 10th place overall, after 2 solid motos saw him ride more like his former self.

Another rider coming back to strength was #20 Broc Tickle. Broc crashed out and broke his collarbone a little over 3 weeks ago, and thanks to surgery, Broc was able to hit the track again for the first time in Southwick. You wouldn't know he missed a beat though, as Broc battled his way through the toughest track of the year, to post a really solid 10th overall. There is no doubt Broc will improve on this each week in the last few rounds.

Another great success for Team Motoconcepts was #55 Kyle Chisholm, who started the day as 2nd fastest qualifier and caried his momentum through to the end to walk away with a 4th overall. That gave Motoconcepts Racing the best team results in their short history. Fellow MCR rider Ryan Sipes also fought hard in the final Opens moto, to take home the Muscle Milk award, which rewards the rider with the best recovery throughout the races.

In the end the Unit MX team saw 4 top 10 overalls, and plenty of potential for future success. We would also like to wish Travis Baker the best in his recovery.

First & Last: Dan Reardon

Monday 30 August 2010

So you thought you knew everything about Dan Reardon? Think again... We hit Dan with the hard questions during a recent trip to his home in California.

Find out more about all your favourite Unit team riders in our new 'First & Last' video series. Wheelz and Nate Berkheimer episodes are already online.

Unit recently headed to Switzerland to watch team riders Mat Rebeaud and Levi Sherwood practice together in the lead up to X-Games. This is the result. These 2 riders are killing it right now.

Cam Pianta Checks In

Saturday 28 August 2010

Hey all,

Well busy couple of month for me, to start it off i had my good mate Brad (Darbo) and John Buultjens come and stay at my house and help me get my roll in that i have been working on forever, all together and finished.

Got alot done and i think we will only have a few more days and it'll all be finished so i'm pumped for that.
so thanks to you guys and all the others that came out and helped.

A couple of weekends ago i was up visiting friends in Sydney and i ended up talking to Dane Searls about his big jumps he is building in QLD and somehow ended up driving my car up to QLD with Dane, Junior and Dane's GF Skye to do the winter catalogue photo shoot and help Dane Build/ride these massive jumps of his.

The photo shoot was awesome fun got to play in a old abandoned house, push Dane down some hills in a trolley, smash a fluro tube aver Nick Cooper's back and do feeble grinds on a old fridge. All the pictures turned out really dope and the new gear that just dropped from Unit is some of the best yet so check it out

The jumps look totally do able even the 50ft and 60ft and I have no doubt that they will be done in the near future, It was possibly one of the funniest/scariest weekends of my life though.

Dane took a big crash on the 50ft and somehow managed to walk away from it. Crazy! Chinga for PM for sure.

Weekend just gone little Hendo and I headed to Melbourne to the Aus bike trade show, which was a bit of a let down. But we did meet up with my mate Jordan Kolb and had a good ride around the city, Kensington, Flem banks and Rampfest. Got to mess around with my hang 5s all day too, which was sweet as I have been flying over the bars way to much on them recently.

By the way the Scooter population has gone through the roof in Melbourne and someone really needs to cull them. So people either run them off the parks or if they are your brothers go buy them BMX's haha. Do it!!

Anyways that’s all from me.
Go ride.
