Kelly McGarry's NZ Summer

Kelly McGarry's NZ Summer

Saturday 3 April 2010

Hi Guys, just a few bits and peices from my last 3 and a half months in my home country of New Zealand.

I got here at the start of December and the first thing on the list was to help my Dad build his house So i gave him a few weeks of my time and made a dent in the construction, after we got the roof on it was all bikes! I kicked it off with building a jump park close to my home town of Nelson which took way more time than I thought! After the park was done my friend Ramon from Switzerland showed up on my doorstep with a beat up old van, a few bikes and a bike rack, so i loaded all my bikes and gear up and we hit the road and headed to the North Island of to ride in a couple of jams and hit a few cool spots! One of the highlights of the north island section of my road trip was riding at Chris B's jump jam in Huntly. The jumps were sweet and he set up big ass lights so we could keep shreddin into the night! awesome!

We spent just under two weeks cruising around the north island and I also picked up my new Corsair bikes from the NZ distributor Wide Open LTD, which I was very stoked about!

With the North Island smashed and the sick deep south dirt jumps/Mtb Scene calling we got on the ferry and headed back to the mainland and headed for Christchurch for the first of four jams in consecutive weekends.
1st jam was Bowenvale in Christchurch, we had a trick battle/showdown which I won Yaaahoooo! Next weekend was the Stoney Hills Jam in Dunedin at some of the raddest trails in new Zealand and I also won that comp yahooo x2! 3rd jam was the Frew Farm Jam in Southland which was a fully sick event with mtb/bmx/fmx and riders from all over NZ and a few from aussie showed up. I placed 3rd there and had a hell of a good time. Final jam for the deep south was the Gorge Road Jam and it was a dooozey, all of the Queenstown crew showed up for a day of dirt jumping, it was pretty chill and everyone had a smile on the dial.

The New Zealand scene is really taking off. It is a hell of a good place to go when it is cold in the northern hemisphere and people are catching on and we are seeing more and more international riders showing up each summer. So if you are sick of the winter next year, come on down to visit us KIWIS and get some ridin' DONE!!

Next up for me is a 3 month tour of Europe and then onto USA/Canada for 4months. See ya out there!
Cheers
Kelly
