Cam's Hillside Dirt Jam Raises Money For Charity

Well, despite the bad weather, set-up issues and rider injures, Cam White's Hillside Dirt Jam went off without a hitch.

So many amazing riders turned up and put on crazy show for more than 1500 fans sprawled up the hillside at Cam's trails.

The Hillside Dirt Jam, now in it’s forth year, showcases some of the most spectacular BMX riding in Australia, if not the world,

Unit athlete Dane Searls did more than enough to claim the 'King Of The Hill' title for the third time. Dane was busting out everything from 360 double whips, to flip no handers, even having a go at a new trick he has been working on - the backflip double can to whip!

Fellow Unit athlete, Cam Pianta wound up with the 'Best Trick' award for the second time, after throwing a massive front flip over the '40 foot' / 'Big Dog' transfer line - a difficult jump for any world class rider, let alone throwing a super hard trick like a front flip in the mix!

So congratulations to the Unit team on those great achievements, especially Cam Pianta for coming back after a huge slam earlier in the day, which left his face looking like he had just done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson.

The 'Best Style' Award again went to Josh Stead. He had so many big slams and his whole face was busted up and bleeding, but he just kept riding!

As well as amazing style, Josh also has the big tricks to back it up.

One huge crash was had by young Chris Harti.

He went for a huge downside whip over the transfer line basically falling from more than 25 feet in the air, over a 40 foot gap, straight to the flat. Landing almost in a belly flop position, he was knocked out cold and taken hospital, which unfortunately put an end to the 'Best Trick' competition.

Thankfully Chris escaped with minor injuries and was discharged from hospital the following morning.

As usual the proceeds from Cam's Jam were donated to a children's charity.

This year, Cam was able to put smiles on the faces of sick children after visiting the Canberra Hospital's children's ward to present a cheque worth more than $13,000.

“If I go to the trouble of holding an event, I may as well donate the money to something,” says Cam

“Getting a smile on their faces, it’s a great feeling being able to do that.”
